Jo Mitchell is a high school senior who switches schools two times a year due to her father's profession, building motors for NASCAR race cars. She begins her first day at North Shore High School, "the last stop" before her dream school, Carnegie Mellon University. She meets an ill-fated outcast named Abby Hanover and begins her career at North Shore with advanced shop class, where she meets her first real crush, Tyler. During lunch, Abby is harassed by the school's mean girls, the Plastics, a clique consisting of the most popular girl in school, Mandi Weatherly, hypochondriac Hope Plotkin, and Chastity Meyer, who has a raging libido. When she comes home, she learns that her father cannot pay for her tuition to Carnegie Mellon.download
